RESPIRATORY THERAPY
Helping you to Breathe Easy
Schuyler Hospital’s licensed and credentialed respiratory therapists evaluate and treat all types of patients, ranging from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed to elderly people whose lungs are diseased. Respiratory therapists provide temporary relief to patients with chronic asthma or emphysema, as well as emergency care to patients who are victims of a heart attack, stroke, drowning, or shock.
We have 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week coverage for inpatient and emergency services. Hours for scheduled outpatient procedures are also available.
Some of the conditions treated include: • Asthma • Bronchiolitis • Bronchitis • Chronic lung disease • Emphysema • Respiratory distress syndrome • Respiratory failure
As part of the treatment for respiratory disorders, your doctor may order various procedures. These are available through our Respiratory Therapy Department. Therapeutic services include:
• Ambulatory oxygen administration • Chest physiotherapy • Incentive spirometry • Inhaler bronchodialation • Nebulizer bronchodialation • Positive-pressure breathing • Pulmonary drainage • Ventilator therapy (acute care, CPAP, BIPAP)
Asthma Management Programs
Because living with asthma has become more common, especially for children, Schuyler Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy Department also offers a full Asthma Management Program. We help patients and their families cope with chronic breathing problems, so they can lead lives that are closer to normal. Our experienced pediatric pulmonary specialist is available to treat infants and children with asthma.
We offer a full range of services including: • Drug therapy effectiveness evaluations • Individualized asthma action plans • Self-monitoring programs • Patient/family training
Sleep Disorder Services
Sleep is essential to your good health. However, too much sleep, too little sleep, or falling asleep at the wrong time may be a symptom of a serious health problem. Under the direction of a Board Certified Sleep Physician, we evaluate patients for a complete range of sleep disorders.
Sleep disorders include: • Insomnia • Narcolepsy • Sleep apnea and heavy snoring • Irregular sleep patterns • Other sleep disorders (recurring nightmares, sleepwalking, sleep-talking, or teeth grinding)
