AMBULATORY (OUTPATIENT) SURGURY

Outpatient surgery at Schuyler Hospital combines the high-quality, hospital-based medical care you need with the personal attention and convenience you deserve.

Outpatient surgery goes by many names -- ambulatory surgery, same-day surgery and one-day surgery.  In most cases, though, the meaning is the same.  Outpatient surgery is designed as a service in which a patient arrives at the hospital, has surgery, recovers and goes home all in one day, without an overnight stay.

As a result, you enjoy several advantages.  All of our resources including sophisticated equipment and an experience, caring staff are here to carry out your procedure and to oversee your safe recovery. You are able to work surgery into your busy routine with minimal disruption, and you can recover comfortably in the familiar surroundings of home. 

At Schuyler Hospital our newly renovated Outpatient Surgery area provides patients with state-of-the-art equipment, increased privacy and more room while recovering from a procedure. Patients of all ages are provided services for Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Podiatry among others.
 
When you are scheduled for your surgery, you will receive a pre-admission testing date, or PAT date.  During this visit, you will have lab work and other physician-requested tests completed.  While you are at the hospital for these procedures, you will also meet and talk with a registered nurse who will discuss your upcoming surgery.  The nurse will explain to you what will happen pre- and post-operatively, as well as review your chart and history.  The nurse will also be able to answer any questions you might have or address any concerns.  This is especially helpful with children, as they are able to recognize a familiar face on the day of their surgery.
 
Pain Management is also a service provided at Schuyler Hospital.  Talk with your healthcare provider about a referral. Together, we may be able to develop a pain central plan to prevent or ease your pain.

The Schuyler Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Department is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for scheduled surgeries.
