STROKE SERVICES
Now stroke care is within REACH at Schuyler Hospital.
Schuyler Hospital has partnered with University Hospital in Syracuse to help stroke victims through a new, revolutionary telemedicine program named REACH Call. REACH provides stroke victims with faster diagnosis, immediate care, and prompt treatment. Because brain damage can begin within minutes of having a stroke, treating a patient quickly can help limit the damage and increase the chance of full recovery. Since every minute counts, having this program locally could potentially save hundreds of lives of future stroke victims who, before the program, would have to travel long distances to reach a designated stroke center.
How It Works - •Within a few minutes of arrival at the hospital, the stroke patient is examined, blood is drawn, lab tests are initiated, and IVs are started.
- • Within 25 minutes of arrival, a CT scan is taken to see if there is bleeding and the patient is hooked up to a telemedicine monitor system.
- • The monitor system uses a camera and a secure, HIPAA-compliant internet connection to transfer all vital data to a neurologist on call with University Hospital's Stroke Unit. This physician can then review the data and see the patient on screen as if they were actually in the room together.
- • The REACH program enables physicians and staff from both hospitals to work together in real time to quickly assess the patient's condition and determine immediate treatment actions.
When every minute counts, we’ve got you covered.
