The Schuyler Hospital Chaplaincy Program provides ecumenical pastoral care to persons of any faith tradition. Our chaplain supplies spiritual care, encouragement, and counsel without seeking to proselytize on behalf of any particular faith community, denomination, or faith tradition.
We believe that each hospital patient and nursing facility resident is a person of dignity and worth, whose spiritual and religious beliefs are vital to their identities as human beings and to the recovery and maintenance of their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and personal well-being. Therefore, we seek to meet the spiritual and religious needs of each person with whom we work.
We provide a trained chaplain who serves in both the Hospital and Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility on a part-time basis. Our chaplain is a valued member of the healthcare team and works within the policies and guidelines of both medical facilities.
Worship Services - Our chaplain organizes a schedule of Sunday afternoon worship services, led by local pastors and lay leaders, at the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility and at the Falls Home.
Visitation - Our chaplain visits residents of the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility and patients in Schuyler Hospital.
Pastoral Care - Our chaplain provides pastoral care for individuals (including patients, residents and staff), and families as needed.
Crisis Ministry - Our chaplain is ready to assist families at the time of death or in other times of crisis.
Special Programs- Our chaplain provides special programs, such as hymn sings, communion services, holiday worship services, and Bible Studies at the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility.
Notification - Following the policies of Schuyler Hospital and Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility as well as federal regulations, our chaplain seeks to provide an appropriate link between patients or residents and local clergy.
Presence - Our chaplain assists the staff of both facilities by providing a pastoral presence and someone with whom staff can share their concerns.
Consultation - Our chaplain is a valued member of both healthcare facilities’ care teams.
Our program receives financial support from a variety of sources, including individuals, service organizations, businesses, Schuyler Hospital itself, and the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary. Many local faith communities financially contribute to our program as well. We are a United Way Agency.
The Schuyler Hospital Chaplaincy Program functions under the auspices of the Schuyler County Council of Churches. A Hospital Chaplaincy Committee, with representative leaders — both clergy and lay people from a number of Schuyler County churches, as well as representatives from Schuyler Hospital and the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility, oversee the administration of the chaplaincy program and ensure high-quality care.
We do not charge patients or residents any fees for our services.
You may contact the chaplain by phone at (607) 535-7121. Please leave a message, and the chaplain will return your call.
